SUFFOLK. Bury St Edmunds. Ruins of the Abbey, built in the 11th cent. It had a troubled history, partially destroyed by rioting locals in 1327, angry with corrupt monks. Its final destruction came in 1539 with the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII.
