Crumlin Viaduct, across the Ebbw River in Monmouthshire, South Wales, at 200ft high and 284 yards long was one of the wonders of the world when it was built in 1857; a victim of Dr Beeching it was closed in 1967 and reluctantly dismantled due to the unrealistic cost of keeping it standing (Illustrated London News, 1857)
