C185-00003

Fair on the River Thames during the Great Frost 1683/4. Occasionally the river froze enough to allow a ‘frost fair’, due to much colder winters and much less tidal flow in those days. (From Wilkinson’s ‘Londinium Illustrata’, 1825)

Photographer: John & Liz Sutherland-Hawes
