Union Bridge, over the River Tweed between England and Scotland about 5 miles upstream from Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, was opened in 1820, the first vehicular suspension bridge in Britain and still the oldest carrying motor traffic in the world. (Photo 1987)
