Kingsferry Bridge opened in 1960 to carry both road and rail traffic across the Swale to the Isle of Sheppey near Sittingbourne, Kent. Since 2006 the road is on an impressive new bridge nearby. It is a vertical lift bridge to allow vessels to pass.
