Sankey Viaduct, over Sankey Brook and the filled-in Sankey Canal about 4 miles north of Warrington, was built by George Stephenson in 1830 and is the world’s first railway viaduct. (Engraving by A-F Lemaitre in ‘Angleterre’, 1847)
