Chirk Aqueduct was built by Thomas Telford in 1801 to take the Llangollen Canal over the River Ceiriog near the Welsh Border. The taller Chirk railway Viaduct followed in 1858 to a matching design, 1974 (On the Welsh border north of Oswestry)
